Thoughts on PHIL 525

It's interesting that Marx preceded Freud and Durkheim by two decades.  If he had gained some public recognition before then, would Freud and Durkheim have written what they did?  This sequence of information flow, and also its cessation (for example, when great writings and thoughts from earlier eras are lost through the destruction of libraries, or because of a limited distribution and recognition of authors in the first place) have so much to do with the direction of our current interests and philosophy.  It pays to cast a wide net in reading and listening to the thoughts of others, especially those that have not published widely.  Those 'quiet voices' are sometimes revolutionaries in our understanding of the world, and universe around us.  Of course, the best sources are those that challenge our thoughts in contemporary terms, so that we take a new look at life and think and dream for ourselves about the why and how of our lives.
